Fruits recognized by the International Society for Horticultural Science (2004)

Dear reader,

As you will no doubt have noticed by now, since volume 59 (2), the following information has featured on the cover of Fruits: "Recognized by the International Society for Horticultural Science". The cover also bears the ISHS logo (http://www.ishs.org).

This recent addition reflects the significant interest shown by the ISHS in this particular CIRAD journal, a mutual interest that should eventually extend beyond a mere mention on the cover of Fruits a nd result in a full partnership between the ISHS and CIRAD.

In the near future, the content of the journal Fruits should benefit considerably from the activities of the ISHS, and particularly of its various Commissions and Sections, notably the Sections working on temperate, tropical and subtropical fruits. However, other Commissions centring on more specific issues such as biotechnologies or postharvest aspects could also be involved.

Furthermore, through interconnections between websites, Fruits could act as a communication vector to keep you, the reader, informed of ISHS activities and products.

It should thus be possible to develop true synergy between the ISHS and CIRAD, as the two organizations share an ambition to open up to developing countries. For the ISHS, this objective is reflected in the activities of its Committee for Research Cooperation, while for Fruits, this is a longstanding vocation, since it has been covering Mediterranean and tropical fruit crops since 1945, although it is now also open to the rest of the world.

This synergy should result in fruitful exchanges that will guarantee the quality and efficacy of the information disseminated, which will obviously be a source of satisfaction for all concerned.
